What happens
Day one, pool and theory
Meet your PADI instructor at the resort dive shop at 8:00 AM. If you completed PADI eLearning before your trip, you go straight to a quick knowledge review and then into the pool. If not, the morning starts with academic sessions covering dive theory, safety, equipment, and planning. After the theory, step into the resort's 70-foot infinity pool to learn 24 confined water skills: mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, underwater communication, and emergency procedures. Your instructor works with you at your own pace until every skill is comfortable. Done by 1:00 PM. Afternoon free.
Day two, first reef dives
Board the boat at 8:00 AM for a 5 to 10 minute ride to the Belize Barrier Reef. Complete your first two open water dives with your instructor. You practice the skills from the pool in real conditions while exploring the reef. Coral formations, tropical fish, and marine life surround you while you learn. Your instructor guides every moment, building your confidence and technique at depth. Maximum depth on Day 2 is 40 feet. Back at the resort by 1:00 PM. Afternoon free.
Day three, final dives and certification
Back on the reef at 8:00 AM for your final two open water dives. Deeper descents up to 60 feet, more complex skills, and more time to enjoy the reef. Sea turtles, nurse sharks, rays, groupers, and parrotfish are common on the barrier reef dives. Complete your final skills demonstration, and your instructor signs you off. You walk back to the resort a certified PADI Open Water Diver, qualified to dive anywhere in the world for the rest of your life. Certification card arrives digitally within days.
What comes next
Your certification unlocks every dive experience Las Terrazas offers. The Barrier Reef Dive, the Great Blue Hole, night dives. The reef is half a mile away and you now have a lifetime pass to explore it. Many guests book their first post-certification dive for that same afternoon.
