What happens
To the river
Fly 20 minutes to Belize City, drive one hour north to Tower Hill. Board the riverboat at the New River.
River safari
One hour upriver through the jungle. Crocodiles on the banks, howler monkeys in the canopy, over 100 species of birds. The jungle closes in, the lagoon opens up, and the High Temple appears above the tree line.
Lamanai
Three excavated temples. The Jaguar Temple with its carvings. The Mask Temple with a 13-foot carved face of a Maya king. The 109-foot High Temple with views across the jungle canopy. Over 700 structures remain unexcavated around you.
Lunch and return
Belizean lunch under the canopy. Riverboat back, drive to Belize City, fly to San Pedro. Back by approximately 6:00 PM.
