What happens

1

Gear check and briefing

Meet at the resort dock. Check your gear, confirm certification, and get briefed on the day's two dive sites. The dive master selects sites based on conditions. Board the boat for a 5 to 10 minute ride to the Belize Barrier Reef.

2

First dive, 60 feet

Descend to 60 feet and explore vibrant coral formations on the world's second largest reef system. Spur-and-groove canyons lined with gorgonian sea fans, boulder and pillar corals, and colorful sponges. Your dive master guides you through the formations, pointing out groupers, parrotfish, angelfish, barracuda, lobster, and spider crabs in the crevices.

3

Surface interval

Back on the boat to rest, rehydrate, and take in the Caribbean. Your dive master briefs you on the second dive site while you relax between tanks.

4

Second dive, 80 feet

Descend to 80 feet for a guided tour through stunning reef walls and swim-throughs alive with colorful fish, sea turtles, and rays. Nurse sharks on sandy bottoms, spotted eagle rays overhead, moray eels in the walls. Deeper water brings larger formations and bigger marine life. Back at the resort dock in time for lunch or your next adventure.

Common questions

Yes. A valid PADI Open Water certification or equivalent (SSI, NAUI, BSAC) is required. Bring your certification card. The second dive reaches 80 feet, so Advanced Open Water is recommended but not mandatory when diving with our dive master. If you are not yet certified, Las Terrazas has a PADI dive shop on site where you can learn in the resort pool and get certified on the reef.

Tanks, weights, boat transport, and dive master are included. BCD, regulator, mask, fins, and wetsuit are available for rental at the resort dive shop. Bring your own gear if you prefer.

The Belize Barrier Reef is home to over 500 species of fish and 65 types of hard coral. Expect nurse sharks, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, Nassau groupers, barracuda, moray eels, parrotfish, angelfish, lobster, and spider crabs. The canyon formations are covered in gorgonian sea fans, boulder coral, pillar coral, and colorful sponges. Visibility typically exceeds 60 feet. Water temperature stays between 79 and 84°F year-round.
